IASL Bookmark Project ~ October of 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015

IASL_Month_Logo.jpgThe International Association of School Libraries (IASL) offers a world-wide bookmark project annually. Interested school libraries submit contact info over the summer and then match themselves with another school library in September. Students at participating schools make bookmarks using the year's theme for International School Library Month and then send the bookmarks to their partnered school.

Students in grades 4 and 5 took part in the exchange in the Fall of 2009. We were partnered with a school from Pretoria, South Africa. The theme for 2009 was, "School Libraries ~ The Big Picture". We were pleasantly surprised with the bookmarks we received and had an opportunity to learn some words in another language (almost all of the bookmarks had words that we weren't familiar with!).

In 2010, grade 2 through 4 students took part using the theme, "Diversity, Challenge, Resilience: School Libraries Have It All!". We were excited when we found out that our partner school was located in Houston, Texas in the United States. The grade 3 students at that school made the bookmarks and sent them to us.

The 2011 theme was, "School Libraries Empower Learners for Life!". We were partnered with a school by the name of Mossgiel Park PS in Victoria, Australia (in a suburb of Melbourne, Australia)! Click here for more information about the 2011 exchange.

The 2012 theme was, "School Libraries: a Key to the Past, Present and Future!". We were paired with a school in Croatia. Click here for more information about the 2012 exchange.

The 2013 theme was, "School Libraries: Doorways to Life". We were paired with a school from Portugal. Click here for more information about the 2013 exchange.

The 2014 theme was, "Your School Library: Mind-Map Central". We were paired with Dawnay School in the United Kingdom. Click here for more information about the 2014 exchange.

We will be taking part in the 2015 exchange and are awaiting our pairing! This year's theme is, "The School Library Rocks!".
